Lady Dior Blue
In Shanghai, Marion Cotillard becomes Lady Blue. The Lady Dior bag opts for a shade of blue as an echo to a colour that has run through the veins of the house of Dior since the beginning. 1947 marked the first appearance of a Saphire dress that was to recur in a number of Monsieur Dior’s collections. With the birth of the New Look, blue was already part of the house’s palette as a « Paris blue » or « Bleu de Paris », which was to transform itself through the years into Bleu Nordique, Bleu Flamme, Ciel de Paris, Email, Bleu Vermeer, Opaline, Bleu Marie-Antoinette…
Monsieur Dior (whose own favourite colour was navy blue) enjoyed dipping his pen into this variety of shades to write the introduction to his collections:
« All the colours of the fields and gardens bring their joy the blue of cornflowers, forget-me-nots and delphiniums. » (S/S 1949)
« ‘Bleu de Paris’ reigns over almost all the day designs and is the symbol of this elegance. It takes on such an importance in the collection that it is genuinely part of its style. » (A/W 1953)
